Important Information

Communication

  • Your child will have a BLUE Road Runner “Take Home Folder”. Your child’s schoolwork, notes home, calendars, class projects, etc. will be sent home in this folder daily. Please check it daily and be sure to empty its contents. Anything that needs to be returned to school should be put in this folder and turned in to me when your child comes to class.

  • Your child will also have a planner this year in which they will record their daily learning. Please check your child’s planner nightly and sign it.

  • Planners and Take Home folders go home every day and back to school every morning!

  • I will send home a weekly email and a monthly calendar to keep you informed of what is happening in our classroom. Please post the calendar in a place that is seen often and check it daily.

Library checkout

Our library book checkout/return day is on Day 2. Library books can be brought home or placed in your child’s book box here at school to read during our literacy time. Students will need to return their books before they can check out any more.

Bathroom Breaks

We do have scheduled times during our day when we will take an all-class bathroom break. Students are encouraged to use this time to limit the amount of out of classroom time. However, students may use the bathroom any time during class if needed by placing the pass on their desk. I ask students to try and wait for a work time to go and not while I'm teaching a lesson or while I'm giving directions.

Homework

  • Answering their "Question of the Day" is their daily homework assignment. This is recorded in their planner each afternoon.

  • Students are required to read outside of the school day for 20 minutes every day. I do not keep a reading log (progress will show naturally in class).

  • Occasionally, special homework projects will be sent home with a separate note with specific directions.

Birthdays

This year Royal Oaks will not be supporting edible or non-edible birthday treats being sent to school. We have decided that no edible or non-edible treats should be sent to school for a child's birthday due to varying food allergies, the high cost of treats, the high sugar content, and the pressure/competition to bring treats.

We appreciate you respecting these guidelines during the school year.

Vacations

If you should go on a vacation, the work missed will be given out after the student returns.

Behavior Management

During the first weeks of school, we as a whole group will discuss classroom expectations. All students will be held accountable to these expectations. Below you will find our school wide expectations:

Respect

On Task

Your Best

Accepting

Learner

Optimistic

Accountable

Kindness

Self-Control

Recognition of positive behavior:

Students that are caught showing positive behavior will be given blue crowns to vote on a fun activity to do at the end of the month!

Redirection/Consequences for not following expectations:

If a child’s behavior is interfering with his/her learning or the learning of other children, he/she will be given a verbal and/or visual reminder to correct their behavior. We will also be learning self regulation strategies using a curriculum called "Zones of Regulation".

If the behavior continues, the child will need to have a private meeting with me. Logical consequences will be given to teach and allow them to feel the effect of his/her actions. A note, email or phone call home will be given when this happens.

For more serious or major infractions, the child will be referred to the office.

Bullying is under NO circumstances allowed in the classroom or school environment. If this behavior is taking place, it will be addressed under the Bully Prevention Program in our district.
