The mission of the Woodland Elementary Media Center is to collaborate with teachers as we work with students who are striving to become better readers, writers, and thinkers. This goal is consistent with Osseo Area School's mission to "inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning." (https://www.district279.org/about-us/mission-strategic-directions).
In the Media Center, students SOAR by moving with purpose, being focused and self-directed, respecting people and learning spaces, and reading widely and voraciously.
The Woodland Media Center operates on a flexible book checkout and teaching schedule. This means:
Students can drop in and check out books any time the Media Center is open and staffed.
The Library Media Specialist (LMS) collaborates with staff to integrate information and technology literacy concepts and skills into each grade level's curriculum. The goal of this approach is to teach essential information and technology literacy skills within meaningful contexts, rather than as isolated skills.
