As our mission states, we will provide enrichment opportunities in all math classes.
However, for a select group of qualifying students in district 196, we offer a one grade level accelerated math program beginning in 7th grade.
6th grade math placement Classes offered: Math 6
When entering RMS as a 6th grader student, students are placed in one of three “Houses” or small learning communities where they receive core instruction including a designated math teacher. The 6th Grade MN Math Standards is the curriculum focus for all students in all houses. Each House will include one cluster or section of students that have been identified through standardized tests and grade 5 assessments as having high aptitude in mathematics. This math class will focus on the 6th Grade MN Math Standards, but with greater depth.
7th grade math placement Classes offered: Pre-Algebra, Accelerated Algebra 1 (Linear Algebra)
To qualify for the accelerated math program in 7th grade, students must meet the criteria set forth by the district.
Students historical math data will be screened by administration to determine eligibility for acceleration.
8th grade math placement Classes offered: Algebra 1 (Linear Algebra), Accelerated Intermediate Algebra 1 (Quadratic Algebra)
If a student does not qualify for the accelerated math program in 7th grade, the next entrance point to the accelerated math program occurs at the high school level.
8th grade math placement is based on previous math class taken.
