Reading is an important aspect of what we do in English/language arts and social studies. While we spend a lot of time in class working on writing and learning through the writing process, reading requires some devotion at home as well.Â
Please find descriptions of our reading projects throughout the year below.
Literature Circles:
Each class will be reading two books as a class. Students will be given weekly reading assignments to be done at home and during independent work time during the school day. Students will complete literature circle discussion sheets and will participate in small group discussions at the end of the week.
The fifth grade class is reading Out of my Mind by Sharon M. Draper.
The sixth and seventh graders just finished reading A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park.
The eighth grade class is reading Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.
Independent Book Projects:
Students will complete a variety of book projects! Students will select independent reading books to read each month. More details for each assignment will be provided as the assignments are announced in class!
The February Book Project is due on 2/2/26!
Students in 6-8 will create nonfiction book bentos.
