Mission Statement of the Albert Lea Gifted and Talented Program: To maximize the potential and meet the unique educational and affective needs of our advanced learners.
Vision: Provide challenging opportunities for students, and support to teachers to help all learners grow socially, emotionally and academically.
Program Goals
1. Align all programming with the PreK to Grade 12 Programming Standards established by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC, n.d.): The Six Gifted Education Programming Standards: Learning and Development, Assessment, Curriculum & Instruction, Learning Environments, Programming, Professional Development
2. Provide appropriate opportunities for advanced learners in the areas of:
Learning experiences and curriculum
Enrichment
Social and emotional needs of gifted children
3. Provide staff development for faculty regarding the characteristics, needs, identification methods and appropriate teaching strategies for the gifted student.
4. Advocate and communicate about the program with students, staff, parents and the community.
5. Evaluate the program’s effectiveness on a yearly basis.
