The first chapter in Alabama was organized on February 2, 1953 in Mobile. Today, there are 46 chapters in Alabama. State scholarships have been established for members of Alpha Delta Kappa, children or grandchildren of members, students entering the field of education at two major Alabama universities, foreign students, and the alma mater of the state president. In 1987, Alabama Alpha Delta Kappa selected Children's of Alabama in Birmingham as the state altruistic project.
Hill House was acquired as the future site for Alabama Alpha Delta Kappa headquarters. It was under the auspices of the Alabama Housing Board, a separate entity from Alabama Alpha Delta Kappa. It was used as a rental property and the revenue from this property help to fund our scholarships and altruistic projects. In 2008, Hill House was sold.
A history of Alpha Delta Kappa was published in 1985. Archives of the sorority were updated and microfilmed in 1987, 1992, and 2000. These archives are preserved for safekeeping and are housed in the Alabama Department of Archives and History.
In 1996, the Past State's Presidents' Advisory Council was added as a permanent standing committee to the Alabama Alpha Delta Kappa State Executive Board. In 2003, Alabama Alpha Delta Kappa established a link on our International web site. In 2004, the Technology Coordinator was added to the list of standing committees. In 2012, the World Understanding Chairman was added to the list of standing committees.
With the opening of the new Children's of Alabama Hospital in 2012, a classroom for hospitalized students was named for Alabama Alpha Delta Kappa.
East Central and West Central Districts were combined in 2014, to form Central District, taking the state back to 5 districts.
Executive Board meetings were centralized in 2014, giving members easier access.
