I am currently working on several other lines of research, including on the extent to which peacekeeping curbs different forms of nonlethal violence and how commitment problems influence groups' choice between violent and non-violent strategies of contention.
In Trust and Fear in Civil Wars: Ending Intrastate Conflicts, I investigate how combatants' information about each other influences their fears about future security. I argue that certain information fuels widespread mistrust, exacerbating commitment problems and fears about future security and significantly prolonging some wars. The book integrates quantitative analyses of cross-national data on civil wars with fieldwork from Turkey and Cyprus and case study evidence from Sri Lanka. You can order your copy here.
