Year 12 students may opt to complete the AQA Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) as part of their KS5 pathways . The EPQ is an in-depth research project which involves producing a 5000 word written report or an artefact accompanied by a report of at least 1000 words.
An important part of the EPQ is the learning journey and the process students take in order to reach their desired outcome. Along the way students record their own reflections as part of a Production Log which accompanies the final product. They must also complete a 15-20 minute presentation for a non-specialist audience.
Students have the freedom to research into any topic, and many often focus on an area which they would like to study in the future. The projects help to develop many different skills such as research, planning, analysis, presentation and evaluation. It helps to establish independent learning and bridge the gap between completing A levels and Higher Education.
Above all, the EPQ project should be enriching; allowing the student to deeply engage with an area that they are passionate about and, ultimately, share this knowledge with others; reflecting on their experience along the way.
