Born and raised in Astoria, Oregon, Margo is a "coastie" and native Oregonian. She knew in third grade that she wanted to be a music teacher and pursued that dream immediately after graduating high school. She attended George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. Margo graduated with her music teaching degree in four years and immediately started substituting and looking for a teaching position. Her first year out of college she filled a long-term substitute position at a middle school in the Portland area, where she taught drama and a prep for high school class. She went on to teach elementary music in Portland for one year, Springfield for five years, and then Albany at several elementary schools for eight years. This is her fifth year at Calapooia Middle School teaching choir/drama and more! She has two daughters and is married to the talented Mr. Brett DeYoung, director of choirs at South Albany High School. She is a Disney freak and has been in a Disney park the last eight out of nine years! Her whole family is musical and there's always music flowing in their home!
She is thrilled to continue with the choir and drama programs at Calapooia and is looking forward to seeing great growth this year. Her desire is to inspire students to appreciate music, feel connected to music, and make music that is fun!
