WASILLA — (Frontiersman) Four Alaska State Troopers parked to investigate a party in four patrol vehicles Sunday. They left with just three. Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said that the four troopers all happened to be in the area when a possible drunk driver was reported at around 1:30 a.m. in the Mack Road area of Wasilla. They didn’t find that driver, but they did spot a bonfire. All four decided to stop and talk to folks there and parked their cruisers on the road. Peters said the party wasn’t raucous or out of hand. It was just your average weekend Valley bonfire. “No one at the bonfire was charged with anything,” Peters said. “They just were there and troopers stopped to see how things were going. ”That’s when they heard the crash. “While they were talking to people at the party they heard a large crash sound and they found one of their vehicles in quite a disarray,” Peters said. She said the patrol vehicle in question was an SUV and that the driver, who didn’t stop to talk to troopers or leave a note, missed the big protective push-bumper patrol vehicles sport and instead smashed into the front driver’s side quarter panel. Peters said the vehicle was pretty smashed up, leaving the 2007 Ford Explorer un-drivable and in need of a tow. Peters Monday afternoon didn’t know whose patrol car was smashed. She said troopers haven’t arrested anybody yet. “While on scene they got a partial identity from people that were there and through other means were able to fully identify the individual,” Peters said. “We believe we do know who it was, we just haven’t been able to contact that person or take them into custody.”
