Labor Day

Learning Target(s):  Students will review and further analyze images that convey meaning, Marji's environment/parents/ family, memoir vs. fiction, and the essential questions through completing station tasks. 

Bell Work: In Persepolis, Satrapi expresses strong feelings about education, especially how it shapes people’s views and lives. Reflect on a time when something in your education—whether it was a class, teacher, or experience—made you feel frustrated or disconnected. How did that affect you?

Assignment: Complete the four stations tasks in the Persepolis Station Review. This will be taken as a quiz grade. Answers should be fully developed, well supported, and show the student's mind at work.  Read Section 4 ( The Jewels, They Key, The Wine, The Cigarette) 

Learning Target(s):  Students will review their reading. Students will compose a personal narrative. 

Bell Work: Compare the way Satrapi represents the media in this section with our own media’s portrayal of events in the middle east. Make a Venn Diagram – what similarities do you see? What differences? 

Assignment: Compose a three to four paragraph response that discusses an influential person in your life or significant experience you have been through in which your perspective was altered and how that shift ultimately has impacted your identity.

Bell Work: Wartime situations can affect how people make decisions and view right and wrong. Think about a time when your values or beliefs were challenged—maybe by something unexpected or outside your control. How did you handle it?

Assignment: Compose a three to four paragraph response that discusses an influential person in your life or significant experience you have been through in which your perspective was altered and how that shift ultimately has impacted your identity.

Learning Target(s): Students will discuss the the narrative, the term secular, and how it relates to the chapters. Students will analyze Education, The Key, and Identity with a partner. Students will comprehend and analyze "The Cigarette" and "The Passport".

Bell Work: Friday Questions

Assignment: Small to Whole group discussion of the text and discussion questions. Complete Education. The Key, and Identity analysis questions, and read the next two chapters. Read  "The Cigarette" and "The Passport".
