Established in 2006 and reformed in 2011, AIFA was formed in Melbourne by a small number of both Australian-Iranians and non-Iranians who were keen to find new ways to promote cross-cultural engagement.
We are a non-profit, non-political voluntary organisation that aims to strengthen community connections and foster positive relations between Australians of Iranian and non-Iranian heritage. By promoting and encouraging participation in various cultural and educational activities, we are dedicated to raising awareness and understanding about Iranian culture within Australian society. Through cross-cultural engagement, we hope to further the level of belonging, participation and contribution of Australian-Iranians to create a more inclusive & cohesive civil society.
Our goal is to build active and lasting friendships based on mutual understanding and goodwill between Australians of Iranian and non-Iranian heritage through an equal exchange of ideas, values and cultural practices. We aim to both raise awareness about Iranian culture and bring Australia’s multicultural values into the Australian-Iranian community. We operates upon a mutual basis of respect and understanding of all religious, cultural and political beliefs. We hope to work alongside already existing Iranian based community organisations in a complimentary fashion to further the sense of belonging, participation and contribution of Australian-Iranians in multicultural Australia. We are open to the participation of all individuals and community groups who share its principles and values. We welcomes members of all ages, backgrounds, nationalities and of all religious and non-religious affiliations.
