Studying about the world helps prepare our students for college studies, international experiences, and active participation in civic life. It helps get them ready for the roles they will inevitably play as "global citizens". Students who will take this course will have a better understanding about the history and contemporary affairs of all humankind, and become a person who can in some measure think, speak, and write about world issues and problems intelligently and confidently. This is a 1 trimester Social Studies elective.

This class will adhere to the the Anoka Hennepin District #11 grading policy:

Behaviour Polices
Students are expected to be on time and actively engaged in class each day.
Academic Polices
Students will follow the acceptable use policy according to Anoka Hennepin School District #11 in regards to technology
Materials
Students will have access to a chrome book for this class each day. Students will be expected to use the teachers website and supplementary materials to have success in the class.
Students will need to be preapred with writing material and writing utensils each day

Unit 1: Introduction

the global community.
UNIT 2: Human Rights UDHR
2.1 I can analyze the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and summarize specific components within the UDHR.
2.2 I can identify specific examples of human rights issues.
2.3 I can use the UDHR to evaluate human rights issues and violations in the modern world.
Unit 3: Economics
3.1 I can explain why countries trade using the concept of comparative advantage.
3.2 I can analyze the impact of free trade and trade barriers on foreign and domestic markets.
3.3 I can identify the effects of globalization and analyze the positive and negative consequences.
3.4 I can identify major international economic institutions (WTO, IMF, and World Bank) and evaluate their role in global trade and economic development.
Unit 4: Peace and Conflict
4.1 I can list and evaluate the different causes of conflict around the world
4.2 I can compare and contrast foreign and domestic terrorism
4.3 I can identify specific examples of conflict and resolutions
4.4 I can analyze the effects of conflict on the global community
Unit 5: Future Challenges
5.1 I can analyze the effects/implications of exponential population growth on local, national, and international policies as they relate to population.
5.2 I can describe the impacts that the use of fossil fuels and other human behaviors have had/continue to have on the environment.
5.3 I can identify alternative fuel sources and evaluate their efficiency.
5.4 I can analyze the impact that a growing population has on the food and water supply.
