AUDITIONEES:
Practice Tracks for "Salley Gardens" are below. Make sure you are practicing with the correct voicepart. Some pointers:
1. Practice with the track until you are comfortable. Then practice without the track. Your audition will be recorded a capella (without any other sound).
2. Work on making sure you begin and end in the same key. This is very important.
3. The best auditions are accurate and musical. Work on painting a picture with the text: use syallabic stress and phrasing to create a beautiful sound.
4. Work on diction next: can we understand what you are saying and why you are saying it? Try to convey meaning when you sing.
5. MOST IMPORTANT: Keep tall vowels and a warm sound as you sing. If the sound gets tight or closed, the judges will not consider you. Keep the sound spinning fast and free.
What you sing for your audition:
1. Sing a one octave major scale at a moderate tempo, using solfege syllables forward, take a breath, repeat upper do, and return back UNACCOMPANIED in the following keys:
Soprano 1 – G Soprano 2 – F Alto 1 – D Alto 2 – Bb
Tenor - Eb or F Baritone – C or D Bass – Ab or A
2. Sing 'Down By the Salley Gardens' at a moderate tempo, UNACCOMPANIED in the following keys (sheet music is below):
Soprano 1 – F Soprano 2 – Eb Alto 1 – D Alto 2 – Bb
Tenor – Eb or F Baritone – C or D Bass – Ab or A
