Welcome to my webpage!

2023-2024 marks my 18th year of teaching at Coon Rapids High School (wow- time flies when you're having fun!).

I am excited to be teaching Concert Choir, Bel Canto, Cantabile, and Voice Lab.

Be kind and take care,

Amy

A bit about me...

I graduated from St. Olaf College in 2005 with a Magna cum Laude Bachelors of Arts degree in music education. I sang with the St. Olaf Choir for three years and worked as the assistant director for Manitou Singers for one year.

I sang for six years with the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers under the direction of Philip Brunelle and Sigrid Johnson. In my time with that ensemble, I learned and performed many new compositions as well as classic choral masterworks. I am currently singing in See Change Treble Choir under the direction of Allyss Haecker.

During the 2013-2014 year, I took a sabbatical leave to complete my Masters of Music in Choral Studies degree at The University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. While in England, I directed the student choir at Lucy Cavendish College, sang in and directed the student choir at Murray Edwards College, and studied conducting under Stephen Layton, Mark Williams, and Graham Ross. Additionally, my husband and I attended many choral events and spent lots of time soaking in the English Cathedral choral tradition (as well as a few country estates and road trips).

I am also the Artistic Director of the See Change Treble Choir- a community choir focused on democratic processes in music-making, collaborative engagement, community service, and high caliber performance.

Previously, I served as the Secretary for the Minnesota chapter of the American Choral Director's Association (ACDA-MN). This organization serves choral directors of all levels across the state and nation. I am currently serving this organization as the chair of the Inclusivity Diversity Equity Access (IDEA) committee.

I live in St. Paul with my husband Ted, son Oliver, daughter Elda, and puppy Max. I love traveling and have been to many places in my life. All my travels have informed my personality and belief about the world and our inter-connectedness. Because of these experiences, I am committed to empowering young singers to experience life more fully and with more understanding through the power of choral music.

If you ever have any questions about what happens in the vocal music department at Coon Rapids High School, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for supporting your student's musical education- I am excited to work with your child and watch their growth. Together we can help your child achieve success!
