APPLICATIONS OF MACHINE LEARNING IN COMPUTATIONAL MECHANICS

The project consists on performing a series of studies focusing on complex structural systems. Finding the ultimate resistance of those systems is critical for design purposes. Together with machine (supervised) learning Neural Network algorithms (regression analyses), the limitations of the current design methodology will be demonstrated, and new design recommendations will be given. A parametric nonlinear finite element analysis will be conducted using Abaqus software to feed the machine learning algorithm.

ANALYTICAL SOLUTIONS FOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS

Although the numerical methods are indispensable for the modern structural mechanics, analytical solutions are always desirable. The aim is to postulate new and improve existing analytical formulations which can deliver valid benchmark results for testing of the purely numerical methods.

ISOGEOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF BEAMS AND SHELLS

2017-

The development of new structural materials, new design methods, and novel discoveries related to the structural form-finding pose great challenges for the contemporary applied mechanics and mathematics. Although there is a vast amount of research devoted to the beam and shell modeling, the exponential progress of software and hardware capabilities enables the development of more accurate advanced models. For this, isogeometric analysis and rigorous considerations of the structure's metric are ideally suited.

FINITE STRIP ANALYSIS OF PRISMATIC SHELLS

The Finite strip method has many advantages over the Finite element method for the modeling of some specific classes of engineering structures. The aim of the project is to investigate limits of the applicability of the Finite strip method.
