Dance Make Up Work
Complete one assignment per day you are absent to earn points for your weekly participation grade. The make-up assignment must be turned in within two weeks after your absence to receive full credit. Make-up work also applies to ISS/OSS.
Standards Length of Assignments:
Written Assignments- All papers should be typed whenever possible and use MLA format. The length should be at least 1 page double spaced, or 2 pages written neatly.
Choreography- Beginning - 32 counts (4 8’s)
Intermediate- 40 counts (5 8’s)
Proficient- 48 counts (6 8’s)
Advanced- 56 counts (7 8’s)
Write a Journal Entry: Write a journal entry about anything related to dance.

Write a Journal Entry: Describe how you would like your class choreography to be. Tell me about the style of dance, props, costumes, make up, hair and anything else you would like to include. What makes your ideas interesting and unique?

Technology: Make a list of 10 different ways to use technology in dance, then define the technological terms you used and give specific examples of “how” you would use each term in dance.
Draw a Design for a Dance Flyer: Draw a design for a dance flyer, and then answer the following questions: What is the title of your design. What was your inspiration for the drawing? Describe your drawing.
Answer the Following Questions: Write your definition of dance. Explain what dance means to you. Do you consider yourself to be a dancer? Why or why not? What does it take to be a dancer?
Answer the Following Questions: Think about your movement preferences. Do you prefer to move slow or fast? Sharp or soft? Explain, identify, and discuss your strengths in dance class. Identify and discuss what you need to improve on in dance class. What strategies can you employ to maintain your strengths and to improve other areas?
Answer the Following Questions: Discuss your experiences in dance class so far. What is easy? What is difficult? Tell me the best part about dance class. Tell me what you dislike. If you could change one thing about dance class, what would it be?
Dance Magazine Assignment: Find or select one article that is at least one full page in length. Read the article without skimming. Write down the title of the article, author’s name, magazine’s title, magazine’s month and year. Answer the following questions: What are 3 facts about dance you learned from the article. Why or why not is the article important to dance? What did you like or dislike about the article and why?
Complete a Crossword Puzzle: Create a crossword puzzle or worksheet using dance vocabulary.
Choose a Dance Website: Choose a dance website and select an article to read that is at least one full page in length. Read the article without skimming. Write down the title of the article, author’s name, and the website. Answer the following questions about the article: What are 3 facts about dance you learned from the article. Why or why not is the article important to dance? What did you like or dislike about the article and why?
Dance Concert: Attend a dance concert or pre approved artistic happening in the community. Type a summary of the concert. Include your reaction to what you saw. Attach the program to the back of the paper.
Careers: Research at least 3 different careers related to dance. Then create a poster board collage of the careers you researched. Include a legend with the careers you used along with their definitions.
Careers: Research at least 3 different careers related to dance. Define the careers with the original definition, and then paraphrase the definition in your own words. Write down the expected salary beside each dance career.
Historical Figure: Research a historical figure in dance and compose a paper by answering the following questions: Who are they? What contributions did they make to society? How is the time period related (ex: social and political events)? Why did you choose this person to research? What is/was their philosophy of life? What culture or background did they come from? Add any significant facts that you find interesting.
Dance: Create a dance phrase that travels and perform it for me after class or after school. You may be asked to show the class.
Dance: Create a warm-up that incorporates energy, levels, time, and different qualities of movement. Perform for me after class or after school. You may be asked to show the class.
Dance: Learn a dance from a different culture than your own and present it to the class. Include a handout and be sure to site your sources (www.dancemedia.com may be helpful).
Dance: Pick at least 10 vocabulary words and use them in a movement phrase. Be creative. Perform for me after class or after school. You may be asked to show the class.
Compare and Contrast: Compare and contrast 2 different dance compositions and describe how they are alike and different. (You may use dances from past concerts)
Critique: Write a critique of a choreographic work.
Nutrition Evaluation: Evaluate your nutrition and eating habits. Do you eat foods that are high in protein and fiber? Research healthy food choices. What are healthy foods? Why do dancers need to be aware of their nutrition?
Write a Grant Proposal Related to Dance: You decide on the theme or topic.
Include an explanation of how the community would benefit in your proposal.
Some examples: Teaching dance at an after school program, starting a dance program at a youth center, teaching dance to underprivileged children, performing at a hospice house or nursing home.
Theatre: Clean up the stage. Sweep and mop the stage after school. See me to plan a day to stay for after school detention.
