ABSS GMAIL Spam Settings Explanation

Phishing emails have gotten to be a huge problem here recently. Google's spam filtering works through end user interaction. While it is good to forward these messages to technology to investigate please also take the time to report the email as phishing so Google's spam filtering can start to catch them. Beside the reply button in the Google Mail web interface select the drop down and report the message as phishing.

ABSS Technology department has ramped up the level of spam filtering provided through ABSS Google Mail. What this means for ALL STAFF is that you will need to keep very close eye on your spam folder in Google Mail, as this aggressive level of spam filtering is likely to catch some legitimate emails. We have also noticed a pattern with some of these emails is to have no one in the TO: field or CC: field, only recipients in the BCC: field. We have set a district wide rule to mark messages that match this pattern as spam and block attachments inside of these messages. If you need to legitimately send emails BCC: to a group of people please add someone to the TO: field to avoid flagging this spam rule.
