8th Grade Drama Exploratory Learning Goals

Based on Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Theatre

Acting:

• Basic theatre vocabulary
• Introduction to theatre history and how it contributes to modern-day theatre
• Movement: how to communicate with body language
• Subtext: how you say the words means more than what is being said
• Working with scene partners: listening, responding

Constructive Feedback/Critical response:

• Using the above acting concepts effectively communicate feedback to
  • scene partners
  • classmates

Reading a script:

• Understand the purpose and function of stage directions as well as the vocabulary used in stage directions
• Note how dialogue develops both plot and character
• Identify plot lines in plays and note parallels between dramatic structure and and the structure of other forms of literature (i.e. short stories and novels)
