Testing for English Learners

WIDA Screener: This is a proficiency test given to new students who arrive out of the district who speak a language other than English at home according to their Home Language Survey. The assessment scores English proficiency in Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing in order to determine whether the student should be offered English Learner services at the school or not. These tests are done within 10 days of the student starting school (or 30 days after the start of the school year).

WIDA Access: This is a proficiency test that every student who qualifies for English Learner services must take that scores the student based on their academic English proficiency in Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. These tests take place between the first week of February and the last week of March every school year. The results are given to districts at the end of August.
