MICHIGAN SCHOOL BAND AND ORCHESTRA ASSOCIATION
2026 STRING ORCHESTRA CLINICS
In order to promote string instrument performance across the state of Michigan, the MSBOA is once again sponsoring string orchestra clinics for students in grades 7 - 9. This year there will be a clinic at Northville Hillside Middle School, Saturday, October 17. (Directors TBD) will be the guest conductor-clinicians at that site for 2026.
HOW TO ENTER: please fill out the 2026 MSBOA Mid-Level Clinic Commitment Form, and bring $15 to Ms. Alwin by 3:00 PM on Tuesday, September 16 (a late fee of $1 per student will be applied for up to one week past the deadline) Once she receives your form entry and fee, Ms. Alwin will register you through the MSBOA website.
SCHEDULE on October 17, 2026:
8:45-9:10 am Arrive, register, and go to sectional rehearsal rooms
9:15-10:15 am Sectionals or Rehearsal (A/B Orchestras)
10:25-11:25 am Sectionals or Rehearsal (A/B Orchestras)
11:30-12:15 pm Lunch*
12:20-1:50 pm Final rehearsal
2:00 Orchestra performance(s)
MUSIC PREPARATION: The A Orchestra will play Viking Ships of Old by Susan Day, and Phantom Train by William Owens. The B Orchestra will play Storm by Soon Hee Newbold, and Burst by Brian Balmages. Students who have signed up for the event will be given the music ahead of time by Ms. Alwin. It is the responsibility of each student to learn the music ahead of time. *Violinists, be aware that you may be asked to switch from 1st to 2nd part to help balance out the orchestras.
*LUNCH PLANS: Please indicate on the commitment form, your plans for lunch on the day of the event. You can bring your own lunch that day, or you can let us know now that you would like us to plan to provide food for you. If you are planning on eating what is provided at the event, please add an additional $5 to the total fee.
