The counseling department assists students in the areas of Academic, Career and College Readiness and Personal/Social. Personal social may include individual counseling and classroom guidance to students. We consult/collaborate with students, teachers, parents, administrators and community agencies. A BestCare counselor is available for students to see onsite as needed. We assist parents and teachers regarding the developmental levels and needs of students. We serve as members of the school's support staff and assist with the coordination of student services.
Referrals for school counseling are accepted from students, school faculty and parents. The length of individual sessions is based on a student's need; but, generally don't exceed 30 minutes per meeting/session. Students requiring long-term counseling will be referred to outside agencies. There is not a fee associated with any school counseling services provided and therefore insurance is not required to receive any school counseling services from the school counselor.
Confidentiality
The information shared with us is treated with the greatest respect. Generally, information shared in counseling will not be shared with anyone. As required by law, however, there are several limits to confidentiality. These limits include threat of harm to self or others, or cases of abuse. Additionally, when information needs to be shared it is carefully filtered and the primary obligation is always to the student. In these situations, sharing of information will be discussed with the student and will only be shared on a need to know basis in an ethically and helpful manner.
