Welcome To The Southwest Michigan Science and Engineering Fair!
For over 20 years, the Southwest Michigan Science and Engineering Fair (SMSEF) has showcased innovative high school research. Students from Southwest Michigan present team or individual projects at the fair in March.
SMSEF is held at Western Michigan University's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
This year, the fair will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
By presenting a poster at SMSEF, students gain presentation experience and regional recognition. Their projects will be considered for special awards from various organizations.
In addition to winning special awards, up to 10 projects could qualify for the Michigan Science and Engineering Fair (MSEF) in April.
SMSEF Grand Award winners will be invited to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles May, 2026.
