Join the 8th Illinois
The 8th Illinois is always seeking passionate and motivated people to join us in our mission to represent the history of Federal cavalry in the American Civil War, and the commitment of men of Northern Illinois to answer the call to defend the Union in 1861-65.
We have uniforms and some gear to loan, and members are encouraged to begin acquiring their own equipment within a reasonable timeframe. Regimental members, officers, and the quartermaster will help you begin your adventure with the 8th Illinois!
We portray both mounted and dismounted troopers; horses are very welcome and encouraged, but not required.
The 8th Illinois does not discriminate on the basis of race or sex, though all members are required to portray males in Civil War service; there are age requirements for some activities.
