Dear 3rd Grade Families,

Here is all of the information we have for Limited In Person Instruction (L.I.P.I. for two hours in the afternoons) and plans for returning for all day in person. Kindergarten, First, and Second grades are doing LIPI from 1:30-3:30 this week. Next week, the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will join them for LIPI. The following week 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, return for LIPI on January 26th, 27th, and 28th. As of right now, the plan for the entire school to return for all day in person learning is set for Monday, February 1st.

We will continue with Comprehensive Distance Learning/C.D.L. (on line learning model taught by the third grade teachers- Bennett, Boethin, and Kollen) until we return to in person learning on February 1st. When we come back to school full time, the ONLY online option for the students is CASA. If you wish for your child to switch to CASA and not attend in person beginning on February 1st, please fill out the form provided on the link below. Ms. Bennett, Ms. Boethin, and Mrs. Kollen will be teaching in person at WS K-8 and will NOT be part of CASA. Third grade CASA is run by a different teacher in our district. There is a link to a video explaining more about CASA below. If you choose to switch to CASA, you need to fill out the form by this Friday, January 15th. If your student will be attending in person you do not need to do anything.

Third grade is an exciting year as students work towards mastering their multiplication facts for 0 through 10, begin division, learn to compare fractions, and work on multi-step story problems. We are moving on to telling time, place value, and measurement.

They will continue to learn to read for information, build their accuracy, and fluency, and become more independent readers.

We will work on writing strong paragraphs with a hook, a main idea, strong supporting details, and a concluding sentence. We will move into papers with an introduction, body, and conclusion.

This is just a smattering of what our third graders will learn!!
