Castles
Castles that lifted up the eye,
mundane, floating in space
and eventually, empty.
I stood upon the shattered rock
in the city of despair
and I leapt off like a bird already in flight.
I saw visions in the streets,
Of great sincerity
and of great pain.
I saw the solemn statues on the sidewalks,
The metal of their cheeks rusted by tears.
I saw the aching sores on the face of god; and I breathed in the heavy air,
Thick with the shame of existence.
From up high, the castles whispered, each hour:
We are all there is
And the billboards smiled
We are all there is, they said in their stylish font, with a sneer
