Synopsis

Summary:

A white fleck of dust on a journal, a scribbled love note incinerated. In a society controlled by "The Party", a man named Winston Smith works for the Ministry of Truth, a section of the government in control of media and entertainment. 1984 takes place in a fictional dystopian world, supposedly in the year 1984. The world is divided into three superstates: Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia. Ironically, the Ministry of Truth's real purpose is historical revisionism, falsifying records and information to manipulate the past. Driven by a dream, Winston longs to rebel against the rigid oppression the population faces. When he meets a young woman, this frustration effloresces into a complex awareness of society. Together, they seek out a place where there is no darkness. 1984 serves as an intricate reminder of the dangers of totalitarianism, philosophically exploring the importance of identity through a lens of symbolism.
