Housing Update
April 1st may bring some finding that the back rent they have been unable to pay during the pandemic is coming due. With the housing moratorium being in place until June 30th, there may be questions as to why their landlord is saying they need to pay the back rent now or be evicted.
Although the State of Oregon extended the rent moratorium until June 30, 2021, a rent declaration must be signed and given to the landlord. And, yes, that rent declaration can be signed at any time to extend the deadline to June 30th. The nationwide American Rescue plan extended the moratorium until June 30,2021, and also requires a declaration to be completed. For more information please visit Oregon Law Center at Oregonlawhelp.org.
Catholic Community Services has a lot of rent assistance available right now. There are different funding sources; some is Eugene, some Springfield, some for COVID impacted income, some for one month of assistance, etc. The best way to get assistance is direct clients to rent@ccslc.org.
Their staff will triage the situation and try to match them up with the funds that they have. Staff can also reach out with client situations if they wish. Get the word out. They have a lot of funding to spend by June 30th.
Landlords can contact the Oregon Housing and Community Services for information on how to apply for housing assistance, for rents not paid to them. https://www.oregon.gov/ohcs/housing-assistance/Pages/landlord-compensation-fund.aspx

In Lane County, our Coordinated Entry system is a community, coordinated response to homelessness that allows households to receive a standard assessment to be added to a Central Wait List for various housing programs. Coordinated Entry is a process to ensure that all people experiencing homelessness have fair and equal access to housing and assistance by being quickly identified, assessed, referred, and connected to housing programs. The Coordinated Entry Program is intended to efficiently and effectively connect people to assistance that will rapidly end their homelessness and prioritizes individuals based on the front door assessment for referrals to housing programs.
