My Story

Twenty-seven years ago, just six months after my high school graduation, I was involved in an automobile accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury and paralysis.

From the very beginning I was determined to live a full life, I would not let the injury define me. After about a year of physical and mental healing, as well as learning to live with a spinal cord injury, I jumped back into life. Jumping back into to life was the best thing I could have done.

It’s been an amazing twenty-seven years. That full life I was determined to have has included becoming a husband, father, teacher, and competitive hand cyclist. I never could have imagined this would be my story twenty-seven years ago when I became a paraplegic.

My hand cycling journey started about eight years ago. After being in a wheelchair for twenty years, I found myself in a place where I needed to get in shape. I started hand cycling around the neighborhood, and that quickly grew into completing marathons. From there I set a goal to complete 40 marathons. I’ve completed all 41, but I won't stop there. Definitely more marathons to come. The marathon circuit led me to paracycling, and I’ve been hooked ever since. My goal at this time is to make my way onto the top spot of a National Championship podium, and hopefully one day earn a spot on the US Paracycling National Team.
