Kindergarten I-4
My name is Laurie Anne Slabicki!
This is my 4th year teaching Kindergarten at Mokapu Elementary School.
I was born and raised on the island of Kaua'i.
I received my Bachelors in Communicology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and
Master of Arts in Teaching PK-3 from Chaminade University.
I love making learning fun, exciting, and engaging for my students!
The alphabet is the building block of literacy and children must learn to recognize and name the letters, both in and out of order, and the sounds associated with each letter.
Sight words are critical to reading not only because they are used so frequently, but also because many of them cannot easily be sounded out or illustrated. Since they are used so often, it is important that young readers be able to recognize these words on sight (hence the term "sight words").
