6th Grade
Welcome to sixth-grade! We are thrilled to have your child in our classroom this year and are looking forward to getting to know them better.
Our Mission:
We will provide an inclusive environment where students feel safe to ask questions, take risks, and ultimately begin to define themselves. Despite the unusual circumstances of this school year, we are determined to practice flexibility in order to make sure that your child has a fantastic learning experience. We promise to do everything in our power to help your child be successful.
Communication:
Our goal is to have clear communication throughout the school year. The quickest way to reach us is through the Class Dojo app. ClassDojo is a school communication platform that teachers, students, and families use every day to build close-knit communities by sharing what’s being learned in the classroom home through photos, videos, and messages. The instructions for joining our ClassDojo page are attached to this email.
Aloha! My name is Gillian Wood and this is my third year of teaching sixth-grade at Mokapu Elementary School in Kailua, Hawai'i. Before moving to Oahu, I taught fourth grade at Kealakehe Elementary School in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i for three years. I love teaching sixth-graders because it is a transformative time where students grow into themselves as individuals. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for my students when they are going through these developmental changes and cheer them on when they persevere through them. Outside of the classroom, you can find me surfing, running, or walking my dog.
