2U supports the use of the Soapbox platform by Wistia for easy recording of lecture-style videos and placement into your course. However, you can use any video recording platform of your choosing and upload those videos into Wistia using the instructions here.
Once you have set up your Studio-in-a-Box, you’re ready to start creating videos! In a few easy steps, you will be able to hit that record button and get to it. The following steps will help you setup and configure your new equipment for use with the Soapbox platform.
NOTE: The Soapbox platform will only work using Google Chrome.
Once you have logged in to your 2U-provisioned Wistia account, follow this link to the Soapbox home page: https://soapbox.wistia.com
You will be prompted to allow Soapbox to access your camera and microphone. Select "Allow". The page should then reload and offer a video preview as well as options to select a camera and microphone.
Select “Logitech Brio” for camera and “AT2020USB+” for microphone.
Click the down arrow next to the profile circle at the top-right of the Soapbox page. Click Account. On the right sidebar, click Recording then Show Advanced Settings. Clicking the link will expand more options that you may choose to enable:
Desktop Media Options - Allows the option to choose specific application windows or Chrome tabs when sharing the screen, rather than the full screen.
Screen Capture - (Dimensions, Frame rate & Video bitrate) - Allows users to adjust recording quality. Typically the default options will work fine. If the user has fast and available bandwidth, an increase in bitrate will improve video quality.
NOTE: If intending on recording video / motion from a screen capture, it is recommended to increase the frame rate to at least 20 (ideally 30) to limit stuttering
Webcam Capture - (Dimensions, Frame rate & Video bitrate) - Allows the user to adjust recording quality. Typically the default options will work fine. If the user has fast and available bandwidth, an increase in bitrate will improve video quality.
Enable streaming uploads - If file corruption during recording occurs, enable this feature to help consolidate bandwidth to essential processes.
It is recommended that any changes done on this screen be checked by test recordings to ensure quality and performance.
