Our Vision

The Instructional Development team sets the industry standard for digital training services that are experiential for professionals in higher education, drive high performance, and positively contribute to student learning. We do this by providing comprehensive training and coaching, preeminent resources, and collaborative observation, analysis, and feedback that focuses on faculty development at all stages of their teaching experience. 

Our Purpose

Our goal is that every 2U-powered digital classroom will be an engaging, outcomes-driven learning environment. To achieve this, we continually challenge the traditional ways of teaching and training online. We are change agents who take risks to better the faculty of our partner programs and positively impact the student learning experience. We are drivers who exceed expectations by creating a new level of performance standards and cutting-edge methods of training and developing faculty. We advocate for faculty needs in all aspects of 2U decision making. We focus on using data and observations to intentionally outthink yesterday, implement today, and improve tomorrow. We commit to generating and implementing innovative ideas that set the industry standard for training higher education professionals from the world's best universities.

Meet the team

Aaron Gamache, Instructional Consultant

Aaron joined 2U in May of 2017. Aaron holds a M.A. of Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado, and has been working in the fields of teaching, training and consulting since 2011. His enthusiastic focus on the diverse needs and skill sets of educators fosters 2U's entrusted partnerships and enterprise advancement. Aaron is a native of Springfield, Massachusetts and has made Champaign, IL his home since 2019. His time away from work is spent traveling, adventuring outdoors, cooking and baking.

Aung Phyo, Instructional Consultant  

Hey there! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Aung and I started at 2U in July of 2020. My educational background is in Early Childhood Education and Human Development with a concentration in Early Childhood. In terms of my professional background, I have worked in training and education in multiple domains, including children, childcare providers and recently arrived refugee adult learners. I am originally from Yangon, Myanmar but have lived in Switzerland, Thailand and New York and now I call Maryland “home”. Some of my hobbies include fishing, cooking, video gaming and spending time with my adorable nephews!

Brendan O'Rourke, Manager

Brendan O'Rourke has been with 2U since the summer of 2018, focusing on helping to onboard new faculty to teach online via 2U platforms.  Prior to 2U, he worked with amazing educators in Title 1 high schools across the country, working to lessen the digital divide.  He also has years' experience teaching young students, focusing on culturally and linguistically-diverse education.  He has earned an MA in Curriculum, Instruction, and Teaching from the University of Denver, and a BA from The University of Arizona.  Brendan has lived in Denver, Colorado off and on his entire life, and lives there currently.  Beyond helping faculty create meaningful and engaging classroom experiences, Brendan enjoys all the outdoor activities that the West provides.  He loves to travel to new places, especially abroad, to experience new cultures.

Brian McCandless, Instructional Consultant

Originally from Brockport, NY, Brian completed his bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Studies at Syracuse University, and a M.Ed. in School Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He began his career as a high school counselor in Calvert County, Maryland and joined 2U in March of 2009.  He currently resides in Boone, NC; a small college town in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  He enjoys being close to family, and spends much of his time outside of work entertaining his two young nephews.  He’s an avid skier, and loves that there are three ski areas within 20 minutes of his home.  

Brittany Kelly, Instructional Learning Designer

Brittany has been with 2U since 2015 and currently serves as a Sr. Faculty Learning Experience Designer for Instructional Development. Her professional background spans across many fields including customer service, marketing, photography, wardrobe styling, and instructional design. She attained a MS in Instructional Design from Bloomsburg University of PA in 2013 after receiving a BA in Public Relations and Marketing from the same university in 2012. In Brittany’s free time, she loves to travel to foreign countries, read books to her son, and cooking new dishes. 

Chris Dunn, Instructional Specialist 

Chris joined 2U in 2017.  He holds as Bachelors of Arts in Software Information Systems and Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Education Technology.  With ten years of experience working in education, he currently works as an Instructional Technology Facilitator at a charter school in Charlotte, NC along with being a Live Support Specialist and Faculty Trainer with 2U. He enjoys supporting professors on their journey of teaching in an online environment and providing innovative ways to engage students.  He enjoys spending his free time attempting to cook new things, listening to music, and traveling 

Digit: Instructional Development Mascot

Digit joined the 2U Instructional Development team in 2017. His fun loving approach to letting educators know where training and development opportunities are throughout the Teaching Online with 2U Technology Modules puts a unique spin on enriching the educator experience. Digit's favorite subject in school was "owlgebra", his day job is trading on the "stork market", and his favorite song is "Owl You Need is Love" by The Beetles.

James Koons, Instructional Consultant

James joined 2U in 2016 and has been working directly with educators since 2017. He graduated from James Madison University and is currently working towards a graduate degree from American University. Before 2U he worked in international admissions in higher ed, and traveled teaching English in Spain, Uruguay, Argentina, and Japan. More about James' professional background can be found on his LinkedIn profile. He is from northern Virginia (outside DC) originally but currently lives with his wife in Denver. He enjoys cooking, camping, and gaming - and loves trying out new restaurants and cuisine. He is dedicated to creating transformative student experiences by keeping the digital classroom dynamic and engaging, and would love to meet to talk classroom strategy.

James Roche, Instructional Consultant

 James joined 2U in June 2016. After graduating from Drew University with a degree in Philosophy and Economics, he went on to work in a variety of service-oriented jobs before finding a home at 2U. James has always had a passion for technology, and comes from a family of educators. As such he has had a lifetime of informal experience supporting teachers in understanding new advances in tech, which has served him well in this position. When not at work, James spends his time exploring a wide variety of interests, from history and philosophy to music and games.

Joanne (An) Pembridge, Senior Manager of Instructional Development

Joanne joined 2U in May 2019 as Manager of Instructional Development team bringing over 6 years of experience in managing and developing online programs at top universities. Prior to joining 2U, she served as the Assistant Director at Teachers College, Columbia University where she was in charge of overseeing all academic and operational affairs for a thriving language lab school and teacher-training online certificate programs. During this time, Joanne earned a master’s degree in Instructional Technology and Media from Columbia University. As a new-ish Colorado transplant from her home town in NJ, you can find her exploring the city of Denver, seeing live music, hiking and snowboarding, and being a dog mom to her furbaby, Nala.

Julianna Frasca, Instructional Specialist

Julianna Frasca first joined 2U in December 2016 as a Live Classroom Support Specialist. She graduated from Drew University with a degree in both Theatre and Psychology, where she spent four years of her life working with faculty in the tech department as a student assistant. After a brief stint as a performer for a murder mystery company, Julianna decided to move her focus back to education and technology. She uses her diverse background to provide excellent customer service and she’s known to help calm professors of their first day jitters. In her free time, when Julianna is not busy traveling or preparing for her upcoming wedding, she can be found performing or working backstage at local theatres. Marylynne Viola-Lawson, Instructional Consultant

A native from upstate New York, Marylynne joined 2U in 2018 after seven years as faculty at both the University of Colorado Denver and Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado. At CU Denver, Marylynne taught courses for the Women’s and Gender Studies Program and the First-Year Experience Program. At Arapahoe Community College, Marylynne taught courses in Humanities, Literature, Film Art, and English Composition. It was here that Marylynne was trained in adult learning theories and became certified in digital pedagogies and teaching in online environments. Marylynne is a huge advocate for faculty in her insistence that they are the lifeblood of any institution of higher learning.  She believes that engaged and excited faculty can make a huge difference towards successful student outcomes. Marylynne is a passionate women’s rights activist, lover of all things art and culture, an enthusiastic world traveler, and an unbiased mother of three accomplished children.  

Monique Bunch, Instructional Consultant

Monique joined 2U in October of 2017. She holds her Bachelor in Vocal Performance from Cardinal Stritch University and Master of Management / Human Resources. Monique has worked in many areas of online education, admissions, academic advising, career services and student coaching.This experience has provided her with a well rounded perspective of how important faculty relationships are and how these established relationships drive positive student and faculty experiences online. Monique is a midwest native, born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In her free time, she loves to read, write and travel. 

Ralph Alvarado, Instructional Consultant

Ralph has worked with 2U since 2015. Having taught music for some time before joining 2U, Ralph loves to take that teaching aspect to train new professors to the Adobe Connect and Zoom platforms as well as train new members of his team. In his spare time, Ralph enjoys making beer as a member of the San Antonio Cerveceros, going to various BBQ places around Texas, and all things taco.

Ryan-Allen McKinney, Senior Manager of Instructional Development

Ryan-Allen joined 2U in 2015 after over 10 years experience in higher education. Ryan holds a M.Ed. from Kent State University and has dedicated his career to shaping environments where the science of learning and the art of educating are valued and celebrated. He is honored to lead this team dedicated to empowering faculty to create effective learning environments for their students.  Originally from Upstate New York, Ryan now lives in Maryland with his wife and two children where they enjoy making music, sharing random historical facts, and reading. 

Rhonda Shields, Instructional Specialist 

Rhonda joined 2U in April 2018. Rhonda holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from North Carolina A&T State University as well as a master’s degree in Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus. Rhonda’s experience spans over a nineteen-year career in higher education with experience in instructional design, organizational, strategic, and project management. In her professional roles, she has served as administrator, adjunct instructor, academic advisor, and trainer. Originally from Brooklyn New York Rhonda now resides in Maryland. When time allows, she enjoys traveling with friends, and channeling her inner Gordon Parks as a novice photographer

Stacy Hall, Instructional Consultant

Stacy joined 2U in August of 2020 and brings with her over a decade of classroom, training, administrative experience. After earning her master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at Teachers College, Columbia University, she went on to focus on empowering and supporting faculty through purposeful, ongoing development. In her free time, she enjoys the stand-up comedy scene, cooks too much Korean food for one person, and wonders how her senior Maltese, Sadie, is so cute.

Terri-Ann Walker, Instructional Specialist

Terri joined 2U in March of 2019. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and an Asian Studies minor from the University of South Florida. She is a native of Jamaica and currently lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is passionate about traveling to different countries and enjoyed her time living overseas for three years. While traveling, Terri enjoyed teaching English online and is still teaching to children and adults today. Her understanding of facilitating classrooms using technology helps her provide the outstanding support professors need throughout their live sessions.

TJ Reissner, Instructional Consultant

TJ has been working with 2U since 2018.  He has a wide variety of work experience but has primarily managed restaurants and stages across northern New Jersey for the past decade.  He enjoys solving problems, and uses skills from both the food service and theatrical industries to do so in live sessions and trainings with professors.  When TJ is not supporting a Live Session or training a new Faculty member, he can typically be found in a theatre, rehearsing a play produced by the company he manages with his wife of 5 years.
