Using Annotations for Engagement

You have many options for sharing visuals during your live sessions. While you are sharing a visual, you may want to use the Annotate feature to take notes or direct student attention to certain concepts. Here's how to use the Annotate feature:

Step 1: Share Screen

Select Share Screen and then choose the type of visual you would like to share. We recommend sharing a specific application (like PowerPoint or Excel) or using the blank Whiteboard option.

Step 2: Enable Annotate

Enable Annotate on the Share Screen menu. This will open the annotation tools menu. You can move this menu to a convenient location on your screen by dragging it.

Step 3: Choose Annotation Tool

From the menu, choose the Annotation Tool you wish to use:

  • Mouse: To click, drag, and use your mouse as usual.

  • Select: To select annotations you’ve already created and move them.

  • Text: To type using your keyboard.

  • Draw: To add shapes, symbols, or free-hand drawings.

  • Spotlight: To point out particular features to your students. Note: The red spotlight is always visible to students as you move your mouse around, while the arrow option only appears when you click on the screen.

  • Eraser: To erase specific annotations.

  • Format: To change the color, size, or font of your annotations.

  • Undo: To undo the last annotation.

  • Redo: To redo the last annotations.

  • Clear: To clear your drawing, all drawings, or others’ drawings.

  • Save: To save a screenshot of the current share to your computer.

Note: By default, students can also annotate on your shared screen. To disable this feature, click More and then Disable Attendee Annotation.
