The Lab School for Children

SEPTEMBER Cohort Calendar

We are planning the City's most exciting summer ever! For the first time, we will fully integrate the strengths of DOE academics with the Department of Youth & Community Development’s (DYCD) school-based enrichment programming. Students in grades K–8 will get outside, learn, and engage with peers and caring adults in safe, supervised, and enriching ways.

All K–8 students participating in programs will have access to academic classes and enrichment programming, including field trips, arts activities and outdoor recreation. Students will engage in daily community building and social emotional learning activities.

Summer Rising will address academic and social emotional needs of our youth through tailored support. These programs will provide a bridge to next school year and allow students to reconnect with one another and with their schools. They will address unfinished learning while providing avenues for recreation, exploration, and fun

Registration

We are excited to bring many children back full-time into a school setting. Summer Rising programs will operate in hundreds of DOE buildings, giving students safe and supervised experiences in their neighborhood. Most students will be able to attend a program in their home building! All New York City students will have an opportunity to participate in the program. No student will be turned away.

K-8

For Summer Rising programs in grades K–8, families can sign up through the City’s Summer Rising page.

Vision & Mission:

The vision of the Lab School is to provide children and families with a nurturing educational environment for excellence in critical thinking, exploration, and experimentation. We are committed to developing each student to his/her full potential so that they can attain rigorous content and performance standards as set by the city and state. By encouraging an understanding and appreciation of diversity, human inter-connectedness, and their relationship to the environment, we will prepare our students to be ethical leaders in their communities and to serve the world around them.

"PS 315 is a wonderful Lab School. It means a lot to me. It is like my home. A place where I learn and I make friends. My teachers are the best. Thank you teachers for caring for us.” Dariel, 2nd grader

"The Lab School makes me feel good. Every day I am able to learn something new and hang out with my friends. I feel excited every day knowing I can do new activities with my classmates. If I feel down when I go to class I feel better when I am in my classroom.”

-- Domenik, 4th grader

"PS 315 is my other family. It's a place where I go to learn and feel happy with all my friends and teachers."

-- Aariana, 3rd grader
