In Scouting we offer fun, friendship and adventure to young people in five sections according to age. There is an emphasis on outdoor activities throughout. The older sections take increasing responsibility for the running of their programme.

We believe that young people develop most when they are learning by doing, when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves. Everything we do is guided by the balanced programme which is a continuous progression of training, activities, badges and awards for young people from 6 to 25. We offer a huge range of activities and experiences to suit all ages, abilities and interests including:

• Badge work – we still award badges and today there are lots of subjects to choose from including some traditional ones like camp cook to modern ones like global conservation.

• Awards and challenges – young people can work towards a range of these to reward participation, commitment and achievement. Some are individual and others for group efforts.

• Outdoors – camping and outdoor activities are a very important part of Scouting for all our members. This includes anything from a Beaver experiencing their first ever night away from home and family at a sleepover, to an international expedition.

Providing life skills, fun, rewards, and confidence to our children of Bruntsfield, Tollcross, Viewforth, Merchiston, and Polwarth areas of South Edinburgh and surrounding areas through Scouting.

Do you remember the person who first encouraged you to try something new, take on a challenge, or believe in yourself? For our young people, that person could be you.

100th Pentland & Bore Stane Explorers are looking for adults who can lend their time, energy, and talents to help our young people grow in confidence, skills, and character.

You don’t need to have been a Scout yourself — just a willingness to join in, support young people, and have some fun along the way. The Scout group relies on people like you playing their part to give young people opportunities to dream big, give it a go, and build skills for life.

Working with young people not your thing?

We are also looking for more volunteers to help behind the scenes as part of our trustee board. Trustees play a key part in Scouts by keeping an eye on our vision. They make sure young people have the best experience at Scouts, and check things are being done safely and legally. Trustees support leaders to deliver a fantastic programme, while having a laugh, making new friends, and learning new skills themselves.
