about me

My name is Ellen

I was happy when I was told I had DLD as it gave me a name for my struggles. When I went online and watched videos of other people with DLD I cried happy tears as I realised that I wasn't alone anymore. I knew then that I was OK and I am not that different. It helped me find my voice and gave me courage to speak up for myself.

I have DLD for life so to help me get on with my life I need others to know about it so they are tolerant and accepting and

I am given a fair chance.

The research says there are 2 students with DLD in every classroom of 30. That is a lot of people. No one that we told, either at home or in school, knew what DLD was.

What is the point of giving me a label if no one knows what to do with it?

I want to change attitudes and help the 2 in every classroom that are like me.

The aim of my website is to educate the educators on the hidden disability that no one has heard of - DLD. I want to teach the teachers what it is like to have DLD and also inform them what has helped make learning easier for me. I believe that teachers have the biggest impact on our life chances. My hope is that they can take some of the suggestions and make some adjustments and then go on to teach these lessons in the classroom and help us all achieve our potential, whatever that may be.

Thank you for your time.
