A NEWBIE'S PERSPECTIVE ON PILATES

I recently noticed that Pilates was becoming popular on social media, and like everyone else, I felt compelled to sign up. It is reasonable to say that I did not love it at all when I went to my local gym and made reservations for classes. I had no idea what I was doing, and trying to learn by observing 20 other strangers did not make it any easier for me. I was hearing a lot of words I had never heard before, and no one was there to fix my form. There were a lot of athletes, CrossFitters, runners, ballet dancers, and other folks in the class. I made an effort to keep going, but after a month I just gave up and decided Pilates was not for me because by that time my back was hurting and I was feeling much worse than I had before.

My Pilates journey seemed to have come to a stop at that point, but one day as I was looking through Instagram, I came across the Pilates Dynamics Page. The images showed off a nice private Pilates studio. I made the decision to simply sign up for the orientation. When I arrived, I was given a tour of the wonderful and well-equipped studio. The instructors were excellent and worked with me closely. My form was worse than I had realized, and after a month of going to the gym, it was never rectified; instead, I was just doing whatever I was told. Because of my previous gym experience, I was quite apprehensive about signing up for group classes.

I discovered that the Pilates mat and small equipment courses have a maximum of 8 people, and the Pilates large machines (the reformer and other machines) lessons have a maximum of 5 people. The teacher had the freedom to wander about the studio, instructing and correcting anyone who required it. May I also add that there was plenty of room between participants and between the Pilates reformers and other Pilates equipment, such as the Pilates towers, Pilates chairs, and Pilates Cadillac? Having enough room allows one to perform a wide variety of motions. This was ideal for me because each exercise has a modification offered by the Pilates instructors. I've been going to Pilates Dynamics Studio lessons twice a week for the past three years, and I really adore it!

What tools is Pilates Dynamics Studio equipped with?

This studio has three completely furnished studios, unlike any other gym I've been to.

Pilates reformers, Pilates Wunda chairs, Pilates towers, Pilates ladder bars, Pilates Cadillacs, and other apparatus are all found in the Pilates Large Machines studios.

The TRX, Ballet Barre, BOSUs, Kettlebells, Big Balls, Small Balls, Weighed Balls, Thera-Bands, Yoga Equipment, Free Weights, Medicine Balls, Trampolines, and a variety of Pilates Kids Equipment are all used in the Pilates Mat & Small Equipment courses.

Joining a private Pilates studio like Pilates Dynamics is pricey.

In no way! The fact that Pilates Dynamics Studio only charges R470 per month for once-weekly Pilates mat and small equipment lessons caught me off guard.

It will only cost you R570 a month to take their well-known Reformer (large equipment) classes, which are offered once a week. In order to mix things up and make your workout more exciting and enjoyable, the instructor will also use additional pieces of apparatus, such as the Pilates Cadillac, Pilates Towers, and Pilates Chairs.

If you're new to Pilates, an hour-long private, one-on-one lesson with a Pilates instructor in an introduction (orientation) class will only cost you R250. And doing this will help you get ready for a Pilates group session, which is well worth it.

Are there any Pilates Dynamics class discounts available?

In order to introduce people to the "real deal," or the proper manner of performing Pilates, which is based on research and functional training, Pilates Dynamics always has specials running.
