Which World Cup Team Was the Best?

Who was the best team at the 2018 World Cup? It is difficult to choose just one. France, Spain, Italy, and England were all fantastic, but which team was the best overall? There are many different factors to consider, but let's focus on the group stage. In the first round of the tournament, France was arguably the best team, and the hosts were clearly the best. In the second round, it was England.

Serbia arrived in the tournament with a lot of promise, but a lack of delivery. Dusan Tadic, at 33, is better than ever and new centre-forward Dusan Vlahovic is a revelation. Kylian Mbappe, who turned out to be the best player at Euro 2016, is a cult star. Sweden, meanwhile, had an under-the-radar star and clinched the trophy with a penalty kick.

South Korea had a mixed year. In recent friendlies, they lost to Brazil 5-1, beat 10-man Chile, and drew with Paraguay. They are not fancied to advance out of their Group B, but they did win the Kirin Cup. However, they are still far from the best. They will have to play a tough group, and it may not be easy. But this does not mean they are a bad team since they still qualified for the World Cup 2022.

England are a difficult team to predict, but the results haven't been in their favour since they reached the quarter-finals. Despite their age, the Dutch had an underwhelming campaign. They were paired with Erling Haaland's Norway and a competent Turkey side. They ended up fourth overall, but they'll need a lot more help to lift the trophy. However, Gareth Southgate's England have made a strong case for a finals spot.
