About Mrs. Cooper

Summer 2020

Dear Parents:

I am very excited about having the opportunity to work with your children this year. Language Arts is a blast and you will watch your child's reading and writing skills transform this year!

I joined Kittredge (from 5th grade at Montgomery) in August 2014, after many years of working with children inside and outside of the classroom. I love teaching elementary school and I have a passion for teaching literacy through the arts. I hold a B.S. in Psychology/English from Georgia State University and earned my Masters of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Mercer University. I am gifted certified. I am a passionate educator and I can’t wait to work with your children to make them equally as passionate learners.

I live near Emory with my husband Mike, and our two daughters, Caitlin and Emmy. Both of my children were Kittredge students and both studied at UGA. Emmy is studying occupational therapy at UGA, and Caitlin is beginning her journey in film and media at APA in Los Angeles.

When I am not at Kittredge, I enjoy playing guitar, ukulele, and harmonica. On weekends, I spend time cooking, grabbing Starbucks, doing crafts, and being with my girls. My favorite place to travel is New Zealand; I hope to travel there many more times!

Our fourth grade curriculum in reading and language arts (ELA) will be based on the Common Core Standards. We will follow Lucy Calkins, focusing on the writing skills of ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. As you will hear during curriculum night, fourth grade is rigorous, and students must be ready to become fluent writers.

I know that we will have a great year with or without a true classroom experience! I will make every effort to make learning interesting and a wonderful adventure for your child. I hope that if you have questions or concerns you will contact me at jill_cooper@dekalbschoolsga.org.

I really look forward to working with your students this year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Cooper
