The bolas releases a strand silk with a sticky glob on it that the moth will use to capture her prey. The South American Gauchos use the bolas to throw at the animals' legs, effectively tripling them. After mating the female will produce many eggs sacs. The spiderlings then emerge from the overwinter. This is what makes this unusual: the male offspring. They are hatched as adults! They can mate immediately, so no maturing is required. Females must however complete their growth. These tiny, half-inch-long females can be found hanging out on the leaves of bushes or other plants. Although they look like poop (or snails), a careful eye could reveal one of Missouri’s most fascinating spiders.
