Reporting

It is important to get help if you have a concern. Please visit the Office of Institutional Equity and Accessibility (OIEA) or the Discrimination and Harassment resources for current methods of reporting. If you are unsure which avenue is right for you, Professor Patrick Holland (Director of Graduate Student Climate & Diversity) and DEI Advocates (trained students, postdocs, and staff) are available to assist you.

Relevant Definitions and Information

Mandatory reporter - A faculty, student, or staff member who is required to report any Title IX violations to a Title IX coordinator as soon as possible. Our DEI Advocates are not mandatory reporters (unless they have a supervisory position over you), and so you may approach them if you're uncomfortable about mandatory reporting. Mandatory reporters are also Campus Security Authorities. Therefore they are required to file reports of certain crimes including sexual assault.

SHARE/Anonymous reporting - Calls to SHARE are confidential and can be anonymous if you wish. SHARE offers information, advocacy, and support such as counseling.

Gender-based discrimination - A situation which limits your ability to participate in or benefit from any university program, activity, or services based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

Sexual misconduct - Any situation including sexual assault, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence, stalking, voyeurism, and any other conduct of a sexual nature that is nonconsensual or has the purpose or effect of threatening, intimidating, or coercing a person. While sexual misconduct often includes nonconsensual sexual contact, this is not a necessarily a requirement.

Non-gender-based discrimination - A situation which limits your ability to participate in or benefit from any university program, activity, or service based on protected characteristics, which include but are not limited to race, color, religion, age, disability, status as a veteran, national or ethnic origin.
