4th Grade Grammar/Writing
We cover a variety of topics in 4th grade grammar/writing class. Click each quarter below to see an *approximate* plan for topics/projects. 1st semester is very heavy on grammatical techniques and principles. Each topic generally takes a week to cover (quiz on Friday), and writing projects differ in time needed - some are multi-week projects. We will also free write occasionally or journal about topics. Sample week provided below to show what a week looks like when covering a grammar topic. A small percentage of our time (and grade) is also devoted to D.O.L. Click the D.O.L tab to see more about how it pertains to your child's grade and what the D.O.L schedule looks like.

4th Grade D.O.L
We spend a small amount of time each day (5-10 minutes) writing down and correcting D.O.L sentences from the board. There are 3 sentences per day Monday-Thursday. Students self correct in their journal first, and then we go over the sentences and make sure we have them correct. Students need to make sure they get these sentences written down correctly in their journal! I pick 2 of those sentences from the week plus 1 new one (for a total of 3 sentences), and they become the D.O.L quiz we take each Friday at the start of class. The most important thing to having success on the D.O.L portion of the grade is paying attention as we correct sentences and making those corrections in their journal.
