About Music Class

Welcome to Music!

Music class meets, for all grade levels, one day per week for 40 minutes. In this brief time, I begin, starting in Kindergarten, a journey with the elementary kids. I work to instill a good sense of pitch and internal beat. The number one task is developing the coordination of the ear and voice to produce accurate pitch. This is so important in all aspects of music. The ability to discern between correct and incorrect sounds will effect how students sing and play instruments. They need to able to hear if they are matching pitch and if not, be able to change to match it.

By 2nd grade, students are learning how to read and perform rhythms, sight-sing solfege patterns, and experiment with different percussion instruments all while gaining a treasure trove of music.

3rd grade is the “Year of the Recorder”. Children will own and learn to play the Soprano Recorder. It is a simple instrument that allows them to concentrate on learning to read music notation.

In the Fourth & fifth grades, students additionally have the opportunity to be part of a musical group by joining and participating in Chorus, Orchestra and Band. It is through these performing groups that many children find their inner selves and a sense of pride, commitment and confidence.

We hope that your child will find his/her niche in the music dept.

 Have a wonderful school year!
