HB 3 requires all teachers and principals in grades K – 3 to demonstrate proficiency in the Science of Teaching Reading through successful completion of Reading Academies by the 2022 – 2023 school year. This includes literacy specialists who see K-3 students in small groups and K-3 departmentalized teachers. To help school districts meet this requirement, Region One ESC is an Authorized Provider of Reading Academy content via Comprehensive or Blended learning pathways. Participants can choose to engage with Reading Academy content in one of three avenues for learning: General Education, Biliteracy, or Administrative. HB3 creates an opportunity for K – 3 school educators across the state to become masters of their craft. To achieve this, Region One ESC will dedicate a team of consultants to facilitate Reading Academy cohorts in coordination with school districts in the region. Content has been expanded to K-5 for LEAs to have the option to allow more teachers to attend and make connections to their classroom context. Grade 4-5 teachers will also receive HB3 credit upon successful completion and complete the same artifacts as K-3 participants.
