About

Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that Williams College Community Garden cultivates land on the ancestral homelands of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohicans, who are the indigenous peoples of the region now called Williamstown. Following tremendous hardship after being forced from their valued homelands, they continued as a sovereign Tribal Nation in Wisconsin, which is where they reside today. It is particularly important that gardeners in this place, who seeks to both enrich the land and harvest the fruits of the land, pay honor and respect to the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohicans people past and present as we commit to cultivating a more inclusive and equitable space for all.

History

Useful Information

The garden currently consists of 50 raised plots.

Each plot is approximately 4'x8' in area and 18" deep. The plot has been prefilled with topsoil to a depth of approximately 15".

One  plot is designed to be accessible to participants using wheel chairs. This plot is approximately 36" from the ground.

Wheel chair access is available via a crushed granite pathway from the Poker Flats parking lot. Three accessible parking places are available in that lot.

Pedestrian access is available from Stetson Road.

Water is available from a stand pipe at the south east corner of the garden. The garden supplies X hose pipes.

The garden is surrounded by a 5' deer fence and has gates, but is not locked.

The garden makes some basic tools available in a shed on the grounds of the garden, but gardeners should also plan on supplying their own tools.

There are no restroom facilities at the garden.

Members of the community garden have a Google Group (https://groups.google.com/a/williams.edu/g/communitygarden) for communicating with all members.
