ALL PLOTS ASSIGNED FOR 2024.

We are delighted to announce that all our plots have been assigned for the 2024  growing season. Future applications will be added to our waitlist. If plots become available (and they often do) we will reassign them on a first come first served basis.

APPLY FOR A 2024 PLOT TODAY

Applications are now open for plots in the Williams College Community Garden for the 2024 season. Open to students, staff, faculty, and local community members. We hope to assign all plots before the end of March, so apply early! The garden consists of 50 4’x8′ raised beds, we have a set of shared tools, water supplied on site, a picnic table, compost heaps, the garden is surrounded by a deer proof fence, we have one plot set aside for communal growing of perennial herbs, and one plot in the garden is designed to be accessible to participants using wheel chairs. This year we have seventeen plots open for new gardeners. If we have more applicants than plots then applicants will be placed on a waiting list. if we have more beds than applicants, gardeners who want them may have a second bed.

Now in our fourth year we have an established community of diverse gardeners, who welcome new and experienced gardeners, and who bring gardening practices and plants from around the world. Frost hardy plants will begin to grow in the next couple of months. Frost sensitive plants will have to wait until our last frost date in western Mass. (May 12th) and for the soil to warm up.

RENUMBERING THE PLOTS (2/21/23)

Our colleagues in Facilities have kindly agreed to renumber all the plots so that they are in order (since last year we added more plots filling in gaps in the garden.) Existing gardeners will retain their old plot (where they might have planted perennials or improved the soil) but the number will change.  All plots will be assigned once the new numbering is in place.

APPLY FOR A 2023 PLOT NOW

For the 2023 growing season the community garden is open to students, staff, faculty and to other community members. The application form for 2023 is now open.

GIVE THANKS FOR THE GARDEN

Take a moment to give thanks for a successful gardening season and support the community garden. Your financial support goes directly towards purchase of supplies, top soil, compost, and tools. Give now!

WELCOME EVENT -- (5/21/22)

Do you have more zucchini seedlings than you think you can ever use? Does that packet of arugula seeds seem bottomless —even with successive plantings?  Share your bounty and get to know your fellow gardeners on Saturday, May 21, from 10-noon.  You can pick up seeds and seedlings or find a good home for what you don’t need or do both!  No donation necessary to participate in the exchange—all gardeners welcome to give and take without condition from the seed/seedling swap.

Rhubarb-lover and compost aficionado Jonathan Miller will lead some compost work—help get our piles ready for the season and learn how to build the perfect pile.  If you want to help, come with your own work gloves and be prepared to get mucky.

Rain date Sunday May 22 10-noon.

BULK COMPOST (5/5/22)

Six cubic yards of compost have been delivered on Wednesday 5/4/22. There is plenty for everyone. Gardeners can take what they need (there are spades in the shed and wheel barrows available) but be aware of the needs of your fellow gardeners.

NEW PLOTS COMING (updated 5/3/22)

The College has approved our request for new plots. No word yet on when the work will begin, how disruptive it will be,  how long it will take, or how many extra plots we will have (we hope between 15-20), but we hope to have those plots ready by Memorial Day for the 2022 growing season. Stay tuned for more news as we get it.

DONATE TO THE GARDEN (5/3/22)

The College has been very generous in building and maintaining the garden, and paying for the water supply. But it is the generous support of gardeners that  pays for bulk compost, tools, and other expenses. If you would like to support the work of the garden use this form to make a donation

LISTEN WHILE YOU GARDEN (5/2/22)

Gavin McGough '22, a student gardener in 2021 created a recording -- Rhubarb Plot -- for a course at Williams and he has kindly shared it with us.  It is a beautifully crafted piece of audio work and a gentle reminder that we should only pick the fruits of other gardeners' labor with their express permission.

APPLY FOR A PLOT NOW (1/3/22)

For the 2022 growing season the community garden will be open to students, staff, faculty and to other community members. All participants in the Community Garden are required to abide by all Williams College policies including our strict health and safety protocols. The application form for 2022 is now open.

Welcome

The Williams College Community Garden provides a peaceful and inviting gardening space for the Williams community and beyond, with a mix of students, faculty, staff, and other community members working side by side. The garden is organized into 50 raised beds, each about 4'x8'. 49 are assigned each year to individual gardeners and one is reserved as a communal herb plot. As we work to cultivate our gardens we also foster wellness, create a sustainable environment for the production of food, and enrich the connection between friends and neighbors. The Garden is located on the north side of Poker Flats on the campus of the College, west of Stetson Road.
