Member since December 1, 2021

Guided by a former career in marketing for Ryder Walker Alpine Adventures, six years ago Melanie Eggers co-founded a local heirloom orchard restoration project, the Apple Core Project. She was the Local Food Initiative coordinator for three years for a Colorado Health Foundation Grant. Currently, she works as the Food Coordinator for the local EDA grant focused on agricultural expansion and distribution for the area's local farmers/producers. She received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mass Communications at Moorhead State University (G.P.A. 3.75; Dean's List) where she played basketball for Moorhead State University's Lady Dragons. Thereafter, she received a Holistic Nutrition certificate from the Bauman College of Nutrition and Culinary Studies out of Berkeley, CA. She's lived in Colorado for more than 25 years and moved to Redvale about six years ago and recently to Nucla to farm, plant a garden, cook and eat local food and spend a quieter, rural life with her husband Erik, and children Mato and Chayton.

After teaching 3-5 grades for 16 years at PVS, I retired in 2015. Since then I’ve continued to enjoy my hobbies of gardening, photography, rockhounding and a bit of traveling.

I’m honored to serve on the Board of such a wonderful school.

I am an army veteran turned librarian. I work at Naturita Community Library as the Early Literacy Librarian and I run the Early Literacy Outreach Program. I also spent 2 years as a substitute teacher at Naturita Elementary. I am mom to an amazing 10 year old boy who lights up my world and fills my heart with love and pride. I live 2 miles outside of Naturita with my husband, son, 2 dogs (my furbabies) and a cat (my “grand” furbaby). In my free time I enjoy reading, writing poetry, crafting, baking, watching movies, and have recently fallen in love with epoxy resin. I truly believe that to invest in the future means investing in our kids.
