Staff Biographies

Barry Brawner

Scoutmaster/Course Director

Barry serves on the Troop 30 Committee, where he’s been a member for over 30 years. He’s served on numerous District and Council training events. Barry has staffed Council Courts of Honor, been Scoutmaster for Leaders' Training, served as Roundtable Commissioner, attended numerous National Jamborees dating back to 1989 and trekked Philmont. He served as a Scoutmaster for the Lincoln Heritage Council for the 2010 and 2013 National Jamborees. Among his awards, he holds the Seneca District's prized “Pink Porcupine”, the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, the President's Award, the District Award of Merit, the Spark Plug Award, the Silver Beaver, and the Keith Wettig Training Award. This will be his twelfth staff on Wood Badge, serving you.

Barry can play very little piano-not really much at all and working on....harmonica! While he's not very good on the Kudu, he can sometimes make interesting tones on the kazoo.

Brent Selch

Assistant Scoutmaster, Program

Brent serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 77, Training Chair for Pack 77, and serves as the Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner for the Cherokee District. He is an NRA RSO, certified as a Cub Scout BB & Archery Range Officer, and has earned the Buckskin award and the District Award of Merit for the Cherokee District. Brent attended Wood Badge course LHC-1544. This is Brent’s fourth Wood Badge course as staff. He works for Capture Higher Ed as a Director of Software Development. All four of Brent’s children are in Scouting; His oldest two, Colin and Lucas, are Boy Scouts, and his younger two, Ethan and Kate are currently Cub Scouts.

Brent can play the trumpet, a piano and the guitar.

Brad Raque

Assistant Scoutmaster, Logistics

Brad was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout with Pack/Troop 348 at Ascension Parish in Louisville, KY where he achieved the rank of Star Scout. Brad is currently serving as the Cubmaster and Webelos Den Leader for Pack 175 at St. Edward Church. He previously served as a Tiger, Wolf, and Bear Den Leader as well as a Committee Member for Pack 175. In addition to working with Pack 175, Brad has worked with the Cherokee District during fall round-up. Brad completed Wood Badge as part of the LHC-1544 class and received his beads on October 15, 2016. He served as a Troop Guide on Woodbadge course LHC-1748.

Brad has received the Buckskin and President's Awards from Lincoln Heritage Council's Cherokee District. Additionally, Brad has earned the Den Leader's Training Award and the Scouter's Training Award. Outside of his service to Scouting, Brad has coached and volunteered at St. Edward Church and J-Town Youth Soccer Association. Brad has also served the Louisville community as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and as a member of Leadership Louisville class of 2016.

Brad's musical abilities can bring you to tears. No, seriously....like an onion.

Rex Ricker

Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Guides

Rex is a Scoutmaster with Troop 323, and an Associate Advisor with Crew 380 and Crew 323. Previously, he has served as a Den Leader and Cubmaster with Pack 212. Rex has also served as a Unit Commissioner. This is his fifth Wood Badge course as staff. He has served as Venturing College Dean at the Louisville University of Scouting (2017 & 2018) and currently serves as the Seneca District Training Chair. He is staffing his fourth course of NYLT this summer. Rex has completed high adventure treks at Northern Tier (2012/2016), Philmont Scout Ranch (2015), and Florida Sea Base (2018), completing his Triple Crown of High Adventure. In 2018, he was the Council’s adult recipient of the Venturing Leadership Award. Rex's daughter Katie is a Venturing Silver and Ranger recipient, who has also attended Northern Tier, Philmont, and Sea Base. She has staffed four NYLT courses, serving as the Senior Patrol Leader of NYLT Course 1 (2017), and has attended Wood Badge. She will be staffing her first Wood Badge Course this fall. His son, Aaron, is an Eagle Scout and has attended Philmont, Northern Tier and Sea Base. He is now a Venturer and is staffing his fifth year of NYLT this summer.

He has played a little piano and drums. His kudu is pretty good... when he remembers to warm it up!

Tony McGrew

Senior Patrol Leader

Tony is currently serving as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 190 and Crew Advisor for Crew 190. He has been in Scouting for 35 years. As a youth, he earned the Arrow of Light, is an Eagle Scout, and selected to the Vigil Honor in the OA. As an adult, he has earned the Buckskin, President's Award, District Award of Merit, and the Silver Beaver. He is a Past Chief of the Keystone Club. He also served on Staff for Junior Leader Training (now known as NYLT) from 1994—1998. He was a participant on SR-175 in 1996, where his father was the Course Director. This is his 9th course as Staff. He is looking forward to meeting you and being your Senior Patrol Leader.

Jeff Weis

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

Jeffrey Weis: Scoutmaster of Troop 190 at Cooper Memorial United Methodist Church. I was a participant on course 1341. This is my first Wood Badge course. I have staffed one NYLT course last summer. I enjoy woodworking, and watching my son play soccer and wrestle. I also enjoy listening to my other son talk about the games he plays on the Xbox, and helping my daughter plan her wedding.

Joanna Katsikas

Joanna is the founding Cubmaster for Pack 332, Louisville. She served in that position for nine years and has now transitioned to ASM for Troop 380. She has been a Cub Scout Day Camp Director (twice now, thanks, Jack), assisted in the founding of several other packs, and has earned the Buckskin award, the President’s award, and the District Award of Merit. Joanna was a participant on LHC-1442, and has been honored to be invited back to serve on staff for the fifth time! She will also be serving on staff for NYLT this summer for the first time.

Joanna and her husband have been together for 30 years, and married for 25. They have a 18-year-old, Max and a 15-year-old, Andrew both of whom have earned their Arrows of Light and now have their eyes set on Eagle! Joanna has been proud and honored to assist in 17 scouts crossing over to Boy Scouts from Pack 332 (mostly to Troop 380) -- 14 of whom have earned their Arrows of Light and 10 of them have earned (or are close to earning) their Eagles!

When not scouting, Joanna is teaching (at JCPS & Spalding University), momming kids in Eastern High's marching band, woodworking, reading or playing in a band with her husband!

Joanna can sing (but cannot play the tambourine at the same time!)

Chelsea Hudson

Assistant Scribe / Photographer

Chelsea Hudson serves as Committee Chairman for Pack 77. She went through Wood Badge course LHC 1748. She is certified as a Cub Scout BB & Archery Range Officer, is Cherokee District Day Camp Director, and has earned the Buckskin award. Chelsea has a son who is a first year Webelos and a daughter who is looking forward to becoming a Cub Scout in a few short years.

Chelsea has been known to tap her toes to music.

Rob Hawkins

Quartermaster

Rob is currently serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 327 in the Seneca District. He also serves on the Seneca Round Table Committee and as the Seneca Boy Scout Training Chair. He has been in Scouting for over 25 years. In that time he earned his Arrow of Light, Eagle Scout, and is a Brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow. He attended Course SR-778 in 2006 and this is his fourth time on staff.

Rob can play a saxophone.

Kenny June

Assistant Quartermaster

Kenny served as ASM for Troop 30. He has been scout Advisor for Sea Base, Canoe Base, and Philmont. Kenny has been Quartermaster for Jamboree 2015 at Fort AP Hill. His son, Adam, is an Eagle Scout and Kenny was honored to help him through the challenges towards that honor. He has earned 2 President's Awards as well as the Buckskin Award.

We're going to give Kenny a slide whistle. We'll see....

Drew Rudd

Assistant Quartermaster

Drew is a third generation Boy Scout and a second generation Eagle Scout from Paducah, Kentucky. He is a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow. He is currently serving as the Committee Chair of Pack 5 in Floyds Knobs as well as serving on the Lewis and Clark District committee. His son Ethan is a second year Webelo. Drew graduated from the LHC 1646 Wood Badge program.

Drew had played the trombone and is working on the ukulele.

Titus Anderson

Cubmaster, Religious Coordinator

Titus Anderson has been involved in Scouting for nearly 9 years and is currently an Associate Crew Advisor with Crew 380 and serves on the committee for Crew 100. He is also a member of the Iroquois District Committee and is the Iroquois Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner. Previously he has served as Scoutmaster for Troop 100, and has been an Assistant Den Leader, Den Leader, Webelos Leader, and Committee member for Pack 100. Titus is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. This is his sixth time serving on a Wood Badge course, having attended Wood Badge course LHC-1340.

Titus has been known to play the saxophone.

Jack Riddle

IT/AV/Instructor

Jack Riddle is a Webelos Den Leader for Pack 332 of Louisville, where he also serves as Treasurer. He was a participant for LHC-1646 and earned his beads in early 2017. This is his second time on Wood Badge staff, first serving as a Troop Guide for LHC-1748. He served as Camp Director for Seneca District Day Camp in 2018. His ten-year-old son, Tyler, is a Webelos with Pack 332, working toward his Arrow of Light. He was awarded the Spark Plug award in 2017 and this year the President's Award. Jack is the IT Manager at Our Lady of Providence High School in Clarksville, IN. He is a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #5 and Past Master of Suburban Lodge #740 Free and Accepted Masons. When not involved with scouting, he enjoys technology, travel, and poker.

Jack can also play a saxophone (fairly well!)

Thomas House

Assistant IT/AV/Instructor

Thomas has been scouting since he was a Tiger. He got his Eagle from Troop 15 of New Albany in 2001 along with 4 friends he knew since he was a Bear. Thomas has the Triple Crown: Sea Base 1998, Philmont 2001, and Northern Tier 2002. He has been Brotherhood member of OA and is currently ASM at Troop 1 in Jeffersonville, IN. Thomas is also the VP of Marketing with the Harvest Homecoming Festival in New Albany, IN, southern Indiana’s largest festival. Thomas works at Kindred Healthcare in the IT dept. This is his first time on staff, and was a participant on Wood Badge course LHC 1850. If he does have spare time, Thomas likes to play video games, is a hobbyist photographer, builds things with his hands, and repairs chainsaws.

Allan Morgan

Instructor, Staff Advisor

My name is Allan Morgan. I work for The Boy Scouts of America. My job includes fundraising, recruiting, training, planning events, public speaking and community engagement. I achieved the distinct honor becoming an Eagle Scout in 2010. I graduated from Western Kentucky University with major in Criminology and minor in Business Administration. My hobbies include outdoor activities, hunting, target shoot and hanging out with friends. I have been married to the love of my life Allyson for less than 6 months. We enjoying hanging out with our spoiled dog Craig.

Chuck Ledford

Instructor

Chuck is ASM of Troop 710. He also serves as Committee Membership Chair, and is on the Owensboro Diocese Catholic Committee on Scouting. Chuck was also Den Leader for Pack 250 for Tiger Cubs and continued serving that den through their Webelos 2 year. He serves as the Scouting for Food Chairperson as well as Membership Chair for the Wapiti District and has served as University of Scouting Midway Chair in Hopkinsville. Chuck was 2nd Assistant at the 2010 National Jamboree and First Assistant at 2013 National Jamboree with his son Chase as 3rd Assistant (that was special!!!) Chuck has had the honor of serving on Wood Badge courses: LHC 1442, 1544, 1646, 1850, and is thrilled to return to serve you once again!

Rick Daniel

Troop Guide

Rick Daniel serves as Scoutmaster of Troop 377 in Valley Station, as a Committee member of Pack 377, as well as Iroquois District Vice-Chair for Training. He began his scouting career in 1983 with Troop 105 of the Tennessee Valley Council (now part of the Greater Alabama Council). He earned the rank of Eagle in 1987. After stepping away from Scouting, Daniel returned to scouting in 2011 when his sons came home from school with a school night flyer and asked to join Cub Scouts. He served as the Cubmaster for Pack 377 and as a Committee member of Troop 377 until 2015, when he took over as the Scoutmaster. He has received a Buckskin Award and President’s Award for the Iroquois District. Daniel attended Wood Badge in Spring 2015, course LHC 1544, and this is his first as staff. Rick works as a teacher and administrator at Olmsted Academy South in Jefferson County Public Schools. His oldest son, Noah earned the Rank of Eagle in 2017, and his youngest son is a Life Scout in Troop 377.

Kerry Holder

Troop Guide

Kerry Holder serves with a dual membership for Troop 4089 and Pack 4089 as a committee member. She has helped with positions as a Den Leader, Secretary, Religious Emblems Coordinator, and Charter Representative. For the past 5 years she has been Tunnel Mill's Day Camp Program Director. She has been awarded with Pranksters Award on Day Camp Director, Scouter of the Year, Buckskin Award, and President's Award. Also, she has been active for 8 years with her daughter's Girl Scout Troop.

Kerry is our most skilled pianist (though it's been a while).

Adrian Shephard

Troop Guide

My name is Adrian Shephard, Committee member with Pack, Troop and Crew 341 in Louisville Kentucky. I currently serve the Iroquois District as a Unit Commissioner, Fall Camp-O-Ree Chair, YPT Champion, District Training Team, Committee Member. I previously served as a Webelos Leader and District Webelos to Scout Transitioning Chair and currently serving as the Council Chair for Webelos to Scout Transitioning. I attended Wood Badge in the Spring 2017 on course LHC-1748. I have earned the Buckskin Award, New Unit Award, Commissioner Arrowhead Award. I have two sons in Scouting : Victor (Life Scout) and Hunter (Star Scout), and I have enjoyed watching them both progress in Scouting as they work towards their Eagle. What I enjoy most out of Scouting is being there to see the Scouts learn to be better leaders.

Jason Brown

Troop Guide

Jason is the Scoutmaster of Troop 346 and have been with the troop for 8 years. He was also the Cubmaster of Pack 75 until March of 2018. He has been in the Scouting family for 13 years now. He am also in the Army Reserves with 28 ½ years and have had 3 Combat tours. He was a member of Wood Badge Course LHC-1544 and was awarded the Buckskin and the District Award of Merit. Jason is a member of the Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow. He has also attended Mountain Man in Virginia Boy Scout Camp and went to Florida Sea Base in 2016. Jason’s son Justin earned his Eagle rank Nov 2018 and is now in the Kentucky National Guard as a Combat Medic. This will be his 1st Wood Badge Staff he is super excited to be here!

Stuart Burris

Troop Guide

Stuart Burris is a proud member of the Owl Patrol from S6-200-11-1 – the final Wood Badge course held by the Shawnee Trails Council. He was beaded in February 2013 and is in his 10th year as an adult volunteer in Scouting. During that time he has volunteered as Wolf Den Leader, Cubmaster, Pack Trainer, Troop Committee Chair, District Program Chair, District Webelos-to-Scout Chair, and District Committee Chair. He was among the founding adults in his home unit, Troop 705 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 2013, where he currently serves as Troop Committee Chair. He has worked several Wapiti District Day Camps as BB Rangemaster, Chaired one Wapiti District Cub Fun Day and Family Camp (2013), and chaired three Webelos-to-Scout Camporees (better known as Digalus’ Eastern Encampment) for the Wapiti District (2013, 2014, & 2018). Stuart was honored with the District Award of Merit in the Wapiti District in 2013, the Good Shepherd Award in 2014, and the Silver Beaver Award in 2018. Stuart is a member of the Nguttitehen Lodge in the Order of the Arrow – Vigil Honor (2018). He also volunteers as a roadie and pit crew member for the Marching Spartans of South Warren High School where his son, Nathaniel (a Life Scout), plays the Sousaphone. When not Scouting or volunteering with the Marching Spartans, Stuart’s day job is Professor of Chemistry and Department Chair in the Chemistry Department at Western Kentucky University.

Greg Shockley

Troop Guide

Greg is an Adviser with Crew 100, Asst Scoutmaster with Troop 100, and Eagle Board Chairman for Iroquois District. From Cub Scouting to reaching the height of Eagle Scout, Greg has over 30 years of consecutive scouting service and is now entering his 20th year as an adult volunteer. He has served as staff on three previous Wood Badge courses, one NYLT course, and several outdoor training courses.

Greg has been known to play the harmonica.

Dan Sturtzel

Troop Guide

Dan is the Scoutmaster of Troop 30 and an Assistant Council Commissioner. He has earned the District Award of Merit, Distinguished Commissioner Award and the Silver Beaver. Dan joined Scouting when his son became a Tiger Cub over 25 years ago. He is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. Dan attended Cub Scout Trainer Wood Badge SR-CS-6 and course SR-211. Trained as a chemist, Dan has retired after teaching high school physics for 13 years. You may remember Dan as a staffer at Camp Crooked Creek the last several years! Dan has an adult daughter, a former Venturer, and an adult Eagle Scout son. His grandson is now in Troop 30!

Dan is quite gifted at the kazoo!

Steve Simpson

Course Mentor

Steven is an Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster with Troop 747, Cornerstone Church / Floyds Knobs, IN. Steven was a participant on SR-778 and this will be his 7th time to serve on staff. Steven has been in Scouting for more than 30 years. He is on the GRC district training team, a teacher at the University of Scouting as well as helping with GRC district events. Steven helped to start Pack 39, Troop 5 and Troop 747. Steven has received the Scouter's Key, Buckskin, President's, District Award of Merit, and the Silver Beaver Award. Steven has been to Philmont Scout ranch twice, in 1976 with his father and three brothers and in 2005 with his son. Steven and his wife have been married for 37 years and have one son Aaron who is 29 years old and an Eagle Scout. In his spare time Steven is a Volunteer Fire Fighter and a Wood Carver.
