Ohio Department of Health, CDC Update Isolation and Quarantine Guidance

Folllowing updated recommendations from the CDC, the Ohio Department of Health has updated quarantine and isolation guidance.

Updated isolation guidance

Regardless of vaccination status or symptoms, anyone who has COVID-19 must isolate for at least 5 days from symptom onset or positive test. Isolation may end on the sixth day if the person is symptom-free or the person is fever-free and symptoms are improving. The person must wear a mask around others for the next five days.

Updated Quarantine Guidance

People whose vaccinations are up-to-date (vaccinated and boosted): If you are up-to-date on vaccinations when in contact with someone who has COVID-19 you do not need to stay home unless symptoms develop. Wear a well-fitting mask for ten days when around others at home or in public. If symptoms develop, isolate immediately and get tested. People who are ages 5-17 DO NOT need to quarantine if they have completed the primary series of COVID-19 vaccines.

People whose vaccinations are not up-to-date (not fully vaccinated; booster not received if due): If you are 18 or older and your vaccinations are not up-to-date, you should quarantine for five days following your last contact with someone who has COVID-19. Wear a mask around others for a full ten days. Monitor for symptoms and get tested at least five days after your last close contact and stay home if you test positive.
